“There are many indications that it is not great”

After just over a quarter of an hour, Blåvitt’s Sebastian Eriksson ended up in the grass at Ullevi after a close fight with Halmstad’s Mikael Boman. The 32-year-old midfielder could not take care of the pitch on his own, but had to go out on a stretcher and be replaced by Simon Thern in the 19th minute.

In the Discovery + broadcast, IFK Gothenburg’s team doctor has commented on the injury and said that it is the hamstring that is off.

– It is clear that it is extremely sad for us as a team, and extra much for him as a person. We have to let the doctors really state what it really is. There are many indications that it is not great, says coach Mikael Stahre at the press conference.

IFK captain Marcus Berg is somewhat more hopeful:

– We will see what it is first and foremost. I really hope for his and our sake that it is not something very serious. Of course, when you leave a match, the risk is that it is not too positive. But we will have to wait and see what it is tomorrow, says Berg who spoke with Eriksson after the match:

– It is clear that they are trying to support him. Nobody really knows what it is – hopefully it’s nothing serious.

HBK’s Mikael Boman played three seasons with Sebastian Eriksson in just IFK Gothenburg.

– It is a regular duel where he gets stuck in the grass. The referee does not blow a free kick because we attack. He must be stuck in the grass, because it is a normal shoulder-to-shoulder duel, says Boman.

– I heard afterwards that it was his tendons that were off well? It was sad for him. He’s a good friend and you suffer with him.

– I may call tomorrow maybe and check the situation with him, as a friend.

– We played three years together. I spoke to him yesterday and we still have good contact.

Sebastian Eriksson has a history of serious injuries in the past, including two cruciate ligament surgeries in the knee. The match was won by IFK Gothenburg 2-0 after goals by Berg and Tobias Sana.
