There are intense fighting in Afghanistan in at least three provincial capitals

The Taliban have been attacking several police stations in Kandahar, southern Afghanistan, for at least four days, officials said.

The Taliban on Wednesday seized control of Kandahar’s seventh police station and stepped up attacks to strengthen its position in the city, officials said.

Hundreds of people have been forced to flee their homes due to the fighting.

Several weeks of active fighting have also taken place in Lashkargah, the capital of Helmand province, where the Taliban have seized control of the fifth police station.

Peaceful people have also died in the fighting in Kandahar and Lashkargah, but the exact number of casualties is unknown, officials said.

Meanwhile, government forces in Tahara province have today managed to repel Taliban attacks in several places in the provincial capital.

The DPA reports that the Taliban already control more than half of Afghanistan.
