Since November, almost 7,000 people from Ourense have come to the Ourense University Hospital Complex (CHUO) and the regional districts of Verín and Valdeorras to receive the fourth dose against the virus. “In Xaneiro we have an important rush, thanks to the fact that Sergas started a campaign to send SMS to people under 60”, explains Josefa Rodríguez Araújo, coordinator of the vaccination campaign.
In fact, if 497 people attended in November and 622 did in December, from the beginning of 2023 the figures multiplied. In January, 2,362 people were vaccinated after requesting the self-appointment, and in February, 2,306. “In the last weeks of this month we are already noticing that the number of appointments has dropped, especially in Verín and Valdeorras,” says Rodríguez Araújo.
The majority profile
In the first weeks after the opening of the campaign, the vast majority of those who came to be vaccinated by self-appointment were people over 60 years of age who had not been able to attend their regular appointment before. Since January, the majority of patients are people over 50 years of age, although there are also young people. “Moita people are new to getting vaccinated because they need to be able to travel or study abroad, but there are also those who decide to face it due to fear of a possible reinfection,” says the coordinator.
The health company insists on the importance to protect yourself, as well as protect others, especially the most vulnerable. “We have to remember that we are in this situation, xa of normality, thanks to which a very high percentage of population is immunized, not just in some corners”, he recalls.
The autocitation is open to all over 18 years old, and can be requested through the Sergas application itself, as well as on the telephone 888 540 045: “It is also possible that they go directly to the CHUO or to the district hospitals, sometimes on Saturday morning, and then we vaccinate them at the moment”.
