Former Östersund coach Graham Potter, now in Brighton & Hove Albion, has started to make a name for himself in England. Potter, who took over Brighton in 2019, has led the club to a 15th place and a 16th place, and right now the club is in ninth place in the Premier League. Potter has thus recently been linked with slightly larger clubs in England.
When Tottenham were looking for a new coach last year, Potter was booed as a candidate for the job and although Everton are now said to be trying to bring in Roberto Martinez or Wayne Rooney, the former ÖFK coach has also been mentioned in that context.
Potter, in turn, thinks it feels strange to be attractive to slightly larger clubs.
– It is difficult to have a sexy name when you are called Potter and especially when the first name is Graham. Then it becomes even harder to be sexy. Add a long face, red beard and everything else. I have to stick to being a football coach and work with the players, says the English coach according to the BBC.
At the same time, Potter believes that he has good people around him who helped in Brighton.
– It is often wrong to think that you are better than you are and can achieve success in any environment. I’m ambitious and I want to succeed, but I’m not a magician. I need help. To be successful as a coach, you need good people around you – a staff, a board, a CEO, a club strategy, structures around it and players.
Brighton will face Chelsea at home in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
