Themed Hikes in the Zugspitz Arena Bavaria-Tyrol: Night Watchman’s Daughter, Full Moon Adventure, and Grainau Legends

On the way with the night watchman’s daughter like in the old days. Or do you prefer hiking under the full moon or on the trail of witches and poachers? Guests in the Zugspitz Arena Bavaria-Tyrol can join interesting themed hikes in summer and autumn.

You never know what the night holds. Marie-Luise Bergler brings light into the darkness. Dressed in a lantern, dark cloak and halberd, as Anna, daughter of the historical night watchman from Partenkirchen, she takes guests on a journey through time to 19th-century Partenkirchen every Saturday in July and August. History and culture buffs are whisked away to a world when streetlamps were lit by hand, lit candles posed a hazard, and nocturnal troublemakers roamed the streets. Anna tells how deeply the profession is rooted in ancient cultures and what tasks night watchmen performed. Whether natural forces, adversity or mystical figures – participants can look forward to interesting encounters. It always starts at 9 p.m. in the pretty Ludwigstraße.

Full moon hike in Lermoos

Not only romantic hearts beat faster during the full moon hike in Lermoos on the Tyrolean side of the Zugspitze. On July 3rd, August 1st and September 29th, the guides of the alpine school tell stories about the country, people and life in the region in view of the impressive panorama of Lermoos, Ehrwald, Biberwier and Zugspitze. For example, about the traditional mountain fires at the summer solstice, how tourism came about, what the Roman road in the Moos is all about and of course also interesting facts about the Zugspitze – border mountain between Bavaria and Tyrol and at 2,962 m Germany’s highest mountain. Depending on the season, you can experience sunset and/or moonrise. You walk without a headlamp, about 100 hm uphill. This hike is also suitable for children and seniors.

“Tales, Witches and Poaching”

The Grainau themed hike “Legends, witches and poaching”, which takes place regularly from July 13th to December 28th, will be exciting. The guided, informative tour brings the special features and stories from the Werdenfelser Land closer to the participants and leads back through the charming Zugspitzdorf, over the Höhenrain and along the Krepbach.
