The Eurovision 2024 contest has begun, and this year the stage in Malmö, Sweden, will see a notable Spanish presence, in addition to the duo Nebulossa. Megaraa rock band from Madrid, was chosen to represent San Marino following their victory in ‘Una Voce per San Marino’, a competition in which they faced 129 groups, including many local talents.
Megara is not a new name on the international music scene. They tried to represent Spain in Eurovision 2023 with their song ‘Arcadia’ at the Benidorm Fest, where they achieved a creditable fourth place. After being excluded from the 2024 edition by decision of TVE, they decided to try their luck in San Marino, proving that perseverance sometimes pays off.
The band is made up of Kenzie on the lead vocal, Rober on the guitar, Saw to the bass and Ra Tache in the battery. They define their musical style as ‘fucksia rock’, a fusion of rock, heavy metal, dance and electronic sounds, colored by an aesthetic that combines black with fuchsia, which according to their fans, creates “a way of life, an entire universe.” and the perfect mix between the sinister and cotton candy.
From his first EP ‘Muérase qué puede’ in 2015, which included songs like ‘Seis’, ‘Alas’ and ‘Baños de sangre’, to his most recent albums ‘Here we are all crazy’ (2018) and ‘Trick or treat’ (2022), Megara has managed to maintain a constant presence in the Spanish rock scene. They have brought their music to large audiences at events such as the Resurrection Fest and the Download Festivalcementing their reputation as a band with an energetic and exciting show.
This year, they come to Eurovision with their song ’11:11′, which pays tribute to their experience at the Benidorm Fest and all the times they were close to victory, which they finally obtained in San Marino.
The love story within the band
This year Megara’s proposal is enriched with the presence of the dancers Aria Bedmar y Emma Fernandez. It should be noted that Bedmar is not only a well-known actress who has worked in series such as ‘Operación Barrio Inglés’ and ‘Acacias 38’, but she is also the wife of Kenzie (vocalist), which adds a personal and emotional dimension to the performance.
“Kenzy, Megara’s vocalist, is my wife and I have been in a relationship with her for 14 years… I started with her when I was 15 and she was 18, when we lived in Almería, we were two girls,” Bedmar shared in an interview for ‘The world’.
While Nebulossa gets her chance to represent Spain, Megara will take her music and her message to Eurovision, demonstrating that music offers second chances and unites cultures in a visual and sound spectacle that transcends borders.
