On July 6, 2021, lightning struck the house of a couple in their sixties in Thurins in the Rhône. Luckily, the owners of the premises are absent because the building catches fire and will be destroyed in a few minutes. In the process, a chain of solidarity is organized to support the victims.
“When we’re in bad luck, we want someone to help us, that’s normal, it’s human!“Suzanne, a resident of Thurins in the Rhône, did not hesitate for a single second before making a donation to the couple of retired farmers, victims, a few days earlier, of a horrible tragedy.
On July 6, 2021, lightning struck their house, triggering a fire that ravaged the building in a few minutes. Fortunately, the owners of the premises are absent at the fateful moment. Once the fire was out, there wasn’t much left. A whole life has gone up in smoke.
Instant solidarity
The day after the tragedy, the desire to help was quickly felt among the inhabitants of Thurins: “we had a lot of calls in town hall“exclaims Claude Caron, the unlabeled mayor of the village.”We have proposals for donations of a lot of things: clothes, sheets, furniture.“The owners, very touched, send their thanks but let it be known that he did not need all these donations, their insurance covering the damage.
The town hall also offers them emergency accommodation, an offer also refused because they want to stay close to their home. “We therefore decided to open a kitty in order to be able to help them finance a mobile home to put on their land. Having always lived in the same place, they have no intention of going to live elsewhere“, continues the city councilor.
A solidarity that is not surprising
Claude Caron said that he was not surprised by the solidarity which was very quickly put in place: “We are in a village of 3000 inhabitants, with a rural character so we still have a lot of solidarity which manifests itself in many events. It was covid for a while. Recently we had a 36h charity run for the association CALL, and there were a lot of people for that!“
Words that are confirmed in front of the kitty, installed in front of the town hall: “When passers-by see the urn, it reminds them for which family it is and so spontaneously they take out their wallet and give, without asking a question.“explains Catherine Pailla, an elected official who takes care of receiving donations, at a market on Saturday July 17, 2021. On this date, the town hall has already collected 800 euros for the retired couple.
