The mayor’s office of Sogamoso had delivered the “Casa del Corregidor” through a loan agreement (free use of a property), to the Casa de la Cultura foundation for 32 years providing the municipal library service, however, the contract ended in year 2015 when the Administrative Court of Boyacá ordered the restitution of the property.
Faced with the non-compliance of the order by the foundation, the First Administrative Court of Sogamoso, in 2018 insisted on restitution, and when the action was not finalized, after three years, for January 29, 2021, the eviction, which was ordered by a judge of the republic.
After the eviction of books, shelves, pictures, among other elements, they are moved to the Alfonso Patiño Rosellli Coliseum, and this Friday, July 30, 2021, the loss of them is announced.
Through a statement, the municipal administration responded that the items had been stored on the site at the request of Alfredo Tovar, director of the Casa de la Cultura foundation, after not having a place available, however, Tovar denied such precision.
“Around 80% of the library was lost among books donated by Sogamoseños, around 45 shelves were taken from the library, in addition to 6 tables, and there were broken chairs and books left there,” said Alfredo Tovar.
The municipal administration indicated that: “The pertinent complaint has been presented to the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, so that the investigation can be carried out and the books and shelves that were stolen from the place loaned for their protection can be recovered.”
Likewise, the mayor’s office requested the removal of the items that were left in the Coliseum, however, Tovar refused to do so, “removing them in the middle of an investigation would make the crime disappear, no one explains how they removed furniture, heavy and immense tables , some shelves and no one noticing, not even the guard, is very strange, “he said.
