Theft of luxury watches: summer continues in the court of Draguignan

Summer lasts until January. At least when you sit in the judicial court of Draguignan and decide to analyze Saint-Tropez and its surroundings through the prism of luxury watch theft. “This plague” usually occupies law enforcement and magistrates from June to September. Last week, the Criminal Court of Draguignan yet again mentioned this sad criminal practice and “organized networks” who do not seem frightened by the heavy sentences handed down.

The judges imposed a sentence of three years’ imprisonment with a committal order against Farouk Abdeli, convicted of an attempted robbery committed on August 14 in Cogolin. That evening, with two accomplices, he had discreetly followed a Ferrari convertible driven by two German tourists to his hotel. Before the gate of the residence opened, Farouk had tried to snatch the Richard Mille worth 150,000 euros that J. was wearing on his wrist. But the driver had the reflex to start, leaving the thief empty-handed. For this time.

Already sentenced for a theft committed two days earlier

Because the day before, the same crew had managed to get their hands on another watch, of an even higher value (400,000 euros). As with the events of August 14, Farouk acted openly, unlike his two acolytes. And so under the insistent gaze of the city’s many video surveillance cameras… For this “successful” theft, the young man, aged just 20, was sentenced last November to three years’ imprisonment by the Court of Appeal of Aix-en-Provence.

The criminal court of Draguignan pronounced the same sentence as well as its confusion with that of November for the facts of which it was seized last week. At the end, he will be banned from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region for a period of five years.
