SPIJK The eleventh Charity Day of TheDutch4Kids was recently celebrated at the beautiful golf course The Dutch in Spijk. During this day – which included a performance by well-known singers Shirma Rouse – an amount of € 130,500 was raised for charity projects to offer children a better future. The amount will be distributed among the four partner foundations associated with TheDutch4Kids, namely the Friends of Sophia Foundation, the Sickle Cell Fund, the Hartekind Foundation and Friends of Bambanani. In addition, applications submitted by (regional) awarding foundations will be honored with a donation.

The board of TheDutch4Kids was pleasantly surprised afterwards: “As a board, we are surprised that a higher amount has once again been raised for the child projects. We look back on a wonderful day”

Friends of Sophia Foundation The proceeds will benefit research into intestinal diseases in children. In the Netherlands, approximately 250 children are diagnosed with Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis every year. These conditions have a huge impact on their lives. Ulcerative colitis concerns inflammation of the large intestine. In Crohn’s disease, the entire digestive tract can be affected.

Dr. Lissy de Ridder, pediatrician at the Erasmus MC Sophia Children’s Hospital who specializes in gastrointestinal and liver diseases, is committed to helping children with these conditions. De Ridder: “These are unknown conditions that require much more research.”

The proceeds for Hartekind Foundation goes to the ‘Saturation meters for midwives’ project. The 20-week ultrasound is an important screening to detect serious heart defects. At this time, approximately 30-40% of the critical heart defects are still missed. It is important to detect a critical heart defect quickly so that intervention can be taken quickly. If this is not done in time, babies with a critical congenital heart defect die in the first month of life. That is why the Hartekind Foundation has started a project to provide all primary midwives in the Netherlands with a saturation meter. This project was set up in collaboration with researchers.

The proceeds for it Sickle cell fund goes to the study ‘The quality of life before and after healing through stem cell transplantation in patients’. A stem cell transplant is a promising treatment that can lead to a cure. However, the process of a stem cell transplant is long and challenging and preparation and aftercare are crucial. The aim of this project is to research the quality of life before and after healing through stem cell transplantation in patients with sickle cell disease. The Sickle Cell Fund wants to develop a care path that optimally supports them during the preliminary phase, during and after this complex treatment process.

The proceeds for the Friends of Bambanani goes to the ‘Cruyff Court for disabled children’ project. With the support of our partner Fijnevent, the Johan Cruyff Foundation has been approached for the construction of a Cruyff Court. To let even more children and young adults experience the fun of exercising together. The Court is now being constructed at a center for disabled children. The added value is that this Cruyff Court is also accessible to children with a (severe) disability. This also gives these children a face in the community. This is desperately needed. “If you can do something for someone else, then you should do it” – Johan Cruijff.
