Friends of Music will present ‘Totally Tina’ in December.
September is here and with it a new season for culture. After the holiday period, the Teatre Calderón in Alcoy presents a preview of its programme for the first quarter, full of theatre, dance and music proposals.
The kick-off will be on September 14 with ‘Mar o cómo superviviente a un tsunami’, a circus theatre directed by Ana Donoso and starring Rebe a Rebes, an aerial artist who is well known in the circus world.
Next up will be ‘Luar Na Lubre’, a Celtic music group that will present its new album entitled ‘XX Encrucillada’ in concert. It will take place on October 11th.
Two days later, the Teatre Calderón will host ‘El Enterrador’, a play that pays tribute to the people who left a testimony of humanity and dignity in the midst of the horror and barbarity of the Civil War and the post-war period. The play is directed by Gerard Vázquez, produced by Pepe Zapata and co-produced by Teatro de Dos/Mediterránea.
Then, from October 21 to 25, the Calderón will host the XXXIII Alcoi Theater Show.
Friends of Music
The Association of Friends of Music has also prepared an exciting programme for the 2024-2025 season. On 27 October, the Association’s cycle of cultural proposals will kick off with the opera ‘La Tosca de Puccini’, co-produced by Opera 2001 and Opera de Massy (Paris-Sud). The work, with its original version in Italian and its three acts, will transport spectators to Rome in 1800.
The main event will arrive in December, with the musical tribute to Tina Turner. The show, ‘Totally Tina’, lands in Alcoy from London, after having triumphed all over the world.
Its great success is due, above all, to the voice of Justine Riddoch, the live musicians, and a team of professional dancers who recreate the original choreographies and costumes that faithfully reproduce the dresses that Turner wore on stage.
Another of the great attractions that the Association of Friends of Music includes in its programme is the ‘Dancing ABBA’ tribute by ‘La Movida Valenciana’, a unique concert that unites music, dance and animation and that will bring the Swedish group’s best-known songs to life for all attendees.
In addition, the Association will bring a wide cultural offering to Alcoy, including the New Year’s music concert by the ‘European Strauss International Orchestra’, the ‘Mozart Requiem’ or the 12th Grand Piano Week, in June 2025, among others.
