Speyer – From October 3rd to 13th, 2024, the curtain will rise in the Old Town Hall for the 29th edition of the Kulturbeutel cabaret festival. Visitors can look forward to a diverse program ranging from puppet theater and drama to cabaret, dance theater and musical performances. There is something for every taste on both floors of the Old Town Hall.
“The Kulturbeutel Festival has been an integral part of our city for years, delighting people of all ages with its exciting cultural programme,”
Mayor Stefanie Seiler emphasizes the special significance and charm of the festival.
“Every year, the cabaret festival enriches our city with unique artistic performances that combine both tradition and innovation.”
Mayor Monika Kabs
Matthias Folz, director of the Speyer Children’s and Youth Theatre, adds: “This year, the culture bag is once again full to bursting and promises unforgettable cultural experiences – for children and families in the morning and afternoon, as well as for the “grown-ups” in the evening program.”

The comedy collective Luksan Wunder reaches into the grab bag full of sketches, music and videos in the live show “WTFM 100, Null”. “Schwester Cordula liebt Heimatromane” offers pulp satire at its finest and the musical reading “La Deutsche Vita” is dedicated to the longing for the Italian “dolce far niente”.
Theater fans can look forward to the guest performance “Prima Facie” by the Mainzer Kammerspiele and the puppet theater “The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared” by the Theatrium Steinau. The play “Bürckel! – Mrs. Gauleiter Stands Her Ground” deals with the reign of terror of the Palatinate Gauleiter Josef Bürckel.
There is also a lot on offer for young music and theater fans: The group “Larifari” presents handmade music for the whole family and the Duisburg children’s and youth theater KOM’MA has brought the piece “GRRRLS” with them. The Speyer children’s and youth theater is bringing its own productions “Spring doch”, “Lucie segelt davon”, “Das Traumfresserchen” and “Name: Sophie Scholl” as well as the co-productions “Ein König zu viel” with the German State Philharmonic Orchestra Rhineland-Palatinate and “Die Duftsammlerin” with the Ensemble Colourage to the stage.
At the beginning of October 2024, the fairy king and queen Oberon and Titania will make a detour to Speyer’s city center. At the Talentschmiede exhibition, the focus is on the young people themselves and visitors can take a look into the creative workshops – from mask theater, improvisation, poems to songs, the creative youngsters show off their skills.
The diversity of the toiletry bag program is particularly evident in the last three days of the festival: the dance theater “New Dances From Our Moving Delta” presents the latest dances and choreographies from the Rhine-Neckar Delta. The group GlasBlasSing makes bottles of all shapes and sizes ring and sing with “Happy Hour”. And finally, the European champion and current vice world champion of mental magic Yann Yuro delights with a fascinating stage show.
The Kulturbeutel Festival is an event organized by the city of Speyer and is sponsored by the Ministry for Family, Women, Culture and Integration of Rhineland-Palatinate.
