Theater. They explore Frida Kahlo’s childhood

Inspired by all those events that led Frida Kahlo to become one of the most popular exponents of Mexican art in history, the creative team behind the staging Frida’s adventures developed an artistic proposal that explores the childhood of the Mexican painter and the people who marked his life through an engaging, dynamic and innovative narrative.

During the red carpet prior to the premiere, Alonzo Mercado, producer of the work, shared details about the production process he carried out with the help of Mara Romeo Kahlo, Frida Kahlo’s great-niece, and Mara de Anda, her daughter, who collaborated with the producer for the creation of the story that moves Frida’s adventures.

“We are very excited, happy, because it has been a lot of work, there have been years of talking with Alonzo and we believe that it is very important to see the little Frida, the Frida that nobody knows. Today we come to talk about who he was, that after polio at the age of six he was able to get ahead with his imagination and creativity, everything is possible, that is the most important thing and that is what must be communicated to children”, explained Mara Romeo Kahlo about the work behind the work.

“It was not complex at all to acquire the rights to Frida’s image. Working with the ladies is a delight for me, an honor to meet them, be close to them and listen to everything they tell us about Frida, as well as being able to transmit all this to the Mexican public”, assured Alonzo Mercado.

little known

For Frida’s adventuresAlonzo Mercado, Mara Romeo Kahlo and Mara de Anda sought to show a facet of the artist little addressed. Frida’s childhood is presented in a way that children and adults can empathize with and learn more about his life, backed by the reliable stories provided by his relatives.

Frida's adventures

“This is something amazing that has never been seen before, because everything is known from Frida, the painter, the accident, we had never done something to exalt and make known all of Frida’s childhood and values. Luckily we got a script that the kids are paying attention to, that’s a great thing. It is a story that is told through my mother (Mara Romeo Kahlo), the family heritage and the producer’s magic powder”, declared Mara de Anda.

“The most important thing that Frida has left us is Mexican pride, love for family and animals, for her people, her Mexico, her sayings, Mexican traditions, that is very exciting to see here today,” added Mara.

  • The adventures of Frida will give performances for 12 weeks at the New Silvia Pinal Theater, Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

In his interest in extolling Mexican culture, passages from the Popol Vuh, in Mixtec and Nnáhuatl, were incorporated as a central part of the work.

Anahí Allué directs and acts; with her, Lisset, Ana Pamela, Ari Albarrán, Juan Carlos Medellín, Amorita Rasgado, Iván Carvajal and Óscar Piñero.
