Theater Proposals that Showcase Objects as Leading Characters and Narrators

In the theater, scenery and props, to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the stage proposal, are important elements. However, there are montages and proposals in which these objects are more than an auxiliary element and take a leading role. These are proposals that help us understand theater from another perspective, or enrich its narrative through objects.

Here we tell you about some proposals that are currently, or will restart, season, in which objects play an important role

Tuesday of puppets and objects. From last March 26, until next May 21, the Hellenic Cultural Center presents the second edition of this cycle made up of nine performances. This initiative brings the public, of all ages, to different shows that use different manipulation techniques. Access to the shows in this cycle is free, with limited space. The venue is Foro 4 Espacio Alternativo and the performance begins at 6 p.m.

Objects can also be, as in the case of Something about a certain Shakespearethe vehicle to narrate scenes from iconic works such as Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet o Titus Andronicus. In this comedy, Adrian Vazquez y Sara Pinet They manipulate kitchen utensils, vegetables and fruits to give life to the characters of Shakespeare. All the objects within reach take part in the telling of these stories. The work is presented in the Foro Shakespeare Tuesdays, here all the information.

The art – object can also be a protagonist in the theater. In Leonardo, written, acted and directed by Rodrigo Murraya work of art plastic artist Sebastian It is both scenery and co-star. Leonardo4 is a piece made by the artist for this work, it is a large-scale model that the actor manipulates during the play so that it takes on different dimensions. It is currently in season at Lucerne Forum, more information here.

In The body I was born in Matías Gorlero creates a scenic space full of objects. One large-sized chair, another common-sized one; chandeliers, lamps hanging from the ceiling, floor lamps, desk lamps and many types; and dozens of pairs of shoes, of all kinds, create a metaphorical space full of obstacles and chiaroscuros. The interpreters (Paulina Trevino y Tamara Vallartawho alternate alongside Maria Perroni Garza), they not only move between objects, they use them, push them and move them to move over the stage full of metaphorical obstacles. Known schedules, ticket costs and more here.

Finally, objects can be loaded with symbolism and be memory, like white bicycles. The scenic ride to not say goodbye It is a project of documentary theater by bike. It’s a circuit of scenic interventions that integrate acting, narration, plastic installation, music and sound experimentation. The white bicycles that are placed as a reminder of the points where an urban cyclist has died are the starting point of these experiences. Here more information about these tours.
