His documented and non-judgmental plays are more sociological than theater. A playwright in the field, Mohamed El Khatib draws the material from his shows by going to interview people belonging to social classes that we only see too little on stage, for fear that they will smear. Better, he goes so far as to put these witnesses directly on the set, leaving them to speak, as with Stadium, a creation for which he invited the public to mix with supporters of RC Lens.
With The Dispute, this time he turns to the children, who tell, in a setting made of giant Lego, how they experience the separation from their parents. Funny, sassy, offbeat and always fair, their thoughts may upset the adults that we are.
The Dispute, by Mohamed El Khatib. From Friday 4 to Sunday 6 June at 7:30 p.m. (Sun. 4 p.m.), at Célestins, Lyon 2e. From 7 to 40 €. theatredescelestins.com
