Theater and Emotional Health for Youth and Children in Valparaíso

With the aim of promoting artistic participation and the emotional well-being of girls, boys, adolescents and the community in general, Sunset Theater next to the Valparaíso Theater Cooperative begin the project “Theater and Emotional Health for Youth and Children”, through a cycle of theatrical presentations and workshops in Algarrobo,
Valparaíso, Concón and San Pedro de Putupur (Quillota), through activities that combine performing art with emotional health tools.

The project offers a diverse program that includes scenic expression workshops for different ages and the exhibition of two plays in educational and public spaces. The Papel Ilustre company will present the play “Sentibella: an anti-story with a magical ending”, aimed at girls and boys, while the Teatro Cooperative will stage “Romeo and Juliet: Freestyle”, a proposal for young people and the community in general.

In that sense, Constanza Segovia, part of the Teatro del Ocaso board of directors, said: “This project allows us to deploy theater in all its magnitude, both in exhibition and training formats, so that it can be enjoyed with family and community.”

Workshops

In addition to the presentation of the works, three performing workshops will be held in each of the participating communities. Girls and boys between 7 and 12 years old will be able to participate in the “Games and scenic expression” workshop, designed to encourage creativity and body expression. For young people between 13 and 18 years old, the “Algarabía: Choral Improvisation” workshop will seek to develop improvisation and teamwork skills. Finally, the community over 14 years of age will have the opportunity to participate in the “Introduction to Alba emoting” workshop, a space for the exploration and management of emotions through theatrical techniques.

Each workshop will be led by performing arts specialists in conjunction with a psychologist, ensuring a comprehensive approach that promotes both the artistic development and emotional well-being of participants.

“It is very interesting to be able to combine workshops that we have already carried out previously, with advice from psychologist Gabriel Donoso, because it gives a deep and contextual look at the doubts and queries that arise during the workshop sessions, both from the participants and from the facilitators and facilitators. It is a great opportunity to promote interdiscipline to offer better emotional tools,” said María José Farfal, Alba Emoting workshop leader.

After each theatrical performance, a mediated conversation will be held so that attendees can reflect on the emotions that arose throughout the theatrical experience. This instance seeks to offer a safe space for dialogue and emotional expression, with the aim of enriching the artistic experience of children and young people.

The cycle of activities will extend until December 2024, seeking not only to bring theater closer to different territories, but also to promote the emotional well-being of new generations, offering a space for meeting, creation and reflection.
