The Žoltok memorial tournament will take place in Riga this week

On Friday and Saturday, the “Daugava” ice hall will host a memorial tournament for hockey player Sergejs Zholtoks, who passed away in 2004, informs the Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF).

The Baltic Veterans Team, the Canadian Armed Forces Team, the K33 Team, which will include friends and colleagues of Zoltok, as well as the Finnish Veterans Team will take part in the tournament. Matches will start on Friday at 18.45 and on Saturday at 12.30. Entrance to the games is free.

Žoltoks was one of the brightest forwards in Latvian hockey during the independence period and one of the first Latvian players in the National Hockey League. Zholtok played 42 games for the national team, scoring 29 goals and providing 21 assists. As part of the Latvian hockey team, he participated in six world championships.

On November 3, 2004, during the match of the Riga 2000 team in Minsk, 31-year-old Zholtok’s heart stopped. On December 2, Žoltoks will celebrate his 50th birthday. The Žoltok Memorial Tournament is organized by the Latvian Hockey Federation and the “Sergej Žoltoks Foundation” in cooperation with the “Future Support Fund”.
