On February 8, 2003, in the “Iztok” bar district, there was no indication that one of the most daring murders would take place in a few minutes.

In Diplomatic Block 73, a businessman is having fun with three young girls and doesn’t know that his time is running out. 31-year-old Tihomir Trifonov often arranges sex orgies in his home, which he even captures on camera. The girls don’t mind and are happy to pose.

The young man regularly records in a notebook how many women have crossed his bed. The number is around 300, but Trifonov does not intend to stop there. However, he does not yet know that there is a killer lurking outside the block, hidden under a hat and hood, because there are cameras at the former BODK block.

The killer is patient, he knows that after the sex orgy is over, the group will rush, as usual, to new entertainment in bars and clubs.

Shortly before 1:00 a.m., the businessman goes out into the street together with the girls, who are from Nadezhda quarter. The four get into Tihomir’s luxury two-door sports Mercedes, parked in front of the block. The group is in high spirits, waiting for the party to continue.

None of them noticed how a man dressed in dark clothes approached the car. A second later, shots rang out.

The killer shot Trifonov point-blank in the back of the head and disappeared into the cold February night. The three girls are in shock and in the first seconds they can’t even realize what exactly happened.

The most stressed is one of them sitting next to the victim. When they come to, the three decide they shouldn’t call the police and flee the scene. An hour later, the shot corpse of the businessman was seen by a belated passerby.

When the forensic experts arrived at the scene, it became clear to them in the first minutes that there were other people in the Mercedes. The front seat of the two-door is pushed forward to allow rear passengers to exit.

The first version is that Tikhomir’s unknown companions are the killers, it was lost during the inspection. The video recording of the violent sexual night was found in the apartment of the murdered man, showing the three girls who escaped after the execution of the businessman. The very next day they were discovered and interrogated.

Upon inspection of the victim’s home, however, it becomes clear that these young women are not the only ones videotaped or photographed in Trifonov’s home. In the apartment, which the young man has been renting for several years, a huge number of video recordings, homemade porn, as well as hundreds of photos with girls in challenging poses were discovered.

It was a big surprise for the policemen, however, when they found out that in several of the photos there were two of their colleagues – a policewoman from the Fourth Police Station and an employee from the “Narcotics” sector of the GDBOP – both young and beautiful.

The investigator from the capital district was dressed, but in various challenging poses, and the anti-mafia woman was photographed on the beach in a monokini.

It becomes clear that the policewoman from the Sofia district is Radost Karaivanova, who was Trifonov’s boyfriend while she was still a cadet at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but she never participated in his group sex orgies. The operational worker from GDBOP was a family friend of the murdered Tihomir, and the nude photo in question was taken when she, her husband and Trifonov were together at sea.

She was summoned directly to the office of Minister Georgi Petkanov. Two years later, she will leave GDBOP because of the scandal, despite being one of the best employees.

Even then, her direct superiors tried to get her to submit the application, but the policewoman refused because she had done nothing wrong. She still does not know that Trifonov is involved in international drug trafficking, there is no information about this in the Ministry of the Interior. Before his murder, he had an old robbery case from 1996 and a criminal record for medium bodily harm. However, these are things of the past.

Only after a mercenary kills the 31-year-old does it become clear that he is connected to international criminal activity. In the first hours after the shooting, the investigators announced that the shot had a serious criminal record and there was evidence that he was engaged in pimping and trafficking of girls.

A little later in the investigation, however, it became clear that Tihomir had nothing to do with paid love, but was actually involved in cross-border drug trafficking channels. It also becomes clear that precisely in connection with this criminal activity, he very often traveled abroad.

Two of Tihomir’s destinations were Venezuela, which is among the leaders in cocaine production in the world, and Malaysia, which is directly related to heroin trafficking.

Investigators are adamant that, most likely, new players in the international drug market ordered his murder to accommodate other players. The second hypothesis, which has not been confirmed, is that a cheating husband of one of Trifonov’s many intimate girlfriends ordered his murder, but this is considered less likely.

This murder, like many other contract shootings, remained unsolved.

Two more die at the hands of an assassin

They suspect the Zemun clan of the attempt

Months after the shooting of Trifonov, on June 4, 2003, the Croatian Robert Shkarica was killed in Sofia. Mercenaries waited for him again in front of his house and killed him with two bullets in the back of the head.

Officially, he is a citrus merchant, but in reality he has the function of coordinator of the Serbian-controlled canals through Bulgarian territory. Shkaritsa works for the Surchin and Vojvodina clans.

After these two murders, operational data began to emerge that both Shkarica and Tihomir were connected to various mafia structures from our western neighbor, which intervened internationally in drug trafficking to Europe.

A year later, in the summer of 2004, when Nenad Milenkovic was arrested in Bulgaria, operational information stated that his people connected to the Zemun clan had organized the murders of Trifonov, Shkaritsa and another Bulgarian killed in early 2003 – Rumen Yanevski. Direct evidence of the preparation of the executions by Serbian killers has never been found.
