Televisión Española has opted again for the series ‘HIT’ this fall. Created by Joaquín Oristrell, it is an acronym for the name of its protagonist, Hugo Ibarra Toledo (played by Daniel Grao), a professor of revolutionary methods at a VET center. Your students must grapple with the concept of failure; Paula, the character played by the young 16-year-old actress from Zaragoza, Carlota Gurpegui, is situated in this context. that this Thursday (today ‘Self-esteem’, the sixth chapter, at 22.40 in La 1 is broadcast) will have a special role in the plot.
Carlota was one of the protagonists of ‘The Girls’, the award-winning film by Pilar Palomero; He reached the second season of ‘HIT’ after passing several tests. “It was the last castin of a day in which I did several – he remembers – and they called me for a second test by video call with Déborah Borque; It seemed that they were going to give me another role, but in the last face-to-face test with Alvaro de Juana, who is my boyfriend in the series, I ended up being Paula, because they saw that there was chemistry between us. It has been an incredible five months, a great experience ”.
Understand the character
In this second season of ‘HIT’ there are four interpreters who do not usually reside in Madrid. “The four of us were installed in an apartment hotel; we rehearsed daily, both individually and in groups, studying the characters. They proposed an exercise called ‘the actor’s challenge’, which involved making sentences with awareness of your character, and which helped me a lot to understand Paula. For example, saying out loud ‘I am not an abandoned child’ was like taking off a weight and gaining confidence, and as the practice progressed, emotions came out ”.
Carlota and Paula look just the right way, shooting for nothing. “Paula is a ‘I want and I can’t’, I don’t think I share that with her –he laughs– because I don’t like to be aware of what others have or are, I try to accept the reality of my life; she is obsessed with her humble roots, he is ashamed of his churrero parents. She goes well as a child, it is the attitude she has in the series, but her life is very different and she does not want to accept it. Raising your social status is the only thing that matters to you, and if you have to denigrate someone to be above, you do it without any problem. On the other hand, it has good things, and the character evolves; it will be seen ”.
Here and there
The Zaragoza has been able to reconcile her studies with recordings. “I went to Madrid on May 10; rehearsals lasted a month, and then there was filming in the summer. I was in the third quarter of school for the first few weeks, which means end-of-year assignments and exams. You had to adapt to the night shoots too, so I had to organize myself well to be able to give it my all; many oral presentations, videos… they were sympathetic to that ”.
Carlota draws attention for the naturalness in the gesture, the look and the poise when speaking, of an unusual maturity in people of her age. On the screen he transmits all that baggage. “The ‘HIT’ ‘script’, Laura Bocanegra, encourages me a lot; She says that I create the character, that I am already Paula, I don’t even care where I put my hands. It has also helped how generous Daniel Grao is, from the first day, he thinks a lot about others, he helps to give good replicas and everything flows. Zoé Arnao (the actress who played Brisa in ‘The Girls’) had already told me that he was very nice, they had been shooting together a movie in the Canary Islands called’ ‘The house among the cacti’ shortly before. On the other hand, my colleague Teresa de Mera advised me to do some improvisation before recording each scene to warm up engines, and it works ”.
