The younger brother of the late founder of the Hyundai group has died

SEOUL, Jan. 31 (Yonhap) – Chung Sang-young, honorary chairman of KCC chemical group and younger brother of late Hyundai group founder Chung Ju-young, died yesterday of a chronic illness at the age of 84.

The death of Chung Sang-young marks the end of an era in South Korean business. He was the last surviving member of the first generation of the Chung family who founded the Hyundai Empire.

Chung established in August 1958 what is now KCC (Kumgang Korea Chemical). In 1974, Chung embarked on painting activities with Koryo Paint. He started KCC Engineering and Construction in 1989.

In 2005, the chemical company and the paint manufacturer merged to become KCC.

Chung worked every day, even after becoming honorary president in 2000, until the end of last year.

He leaves behind his wife and three sons, including KCC President Chung Mong-jin.
