The Uruguayan Liverpool will host Independiente del Valle from Ecuador this Thursday in a Copa Libertadores match that will pit two young stars from the continent against each other: Luciano Rodríguez and Kendry Páez.
Scene of historic battles framed in the main continental competition at the club level, the Centenario stadium in Montevideo will witness a duel that will have one of the main seasonings in the presence of these players.
Born in May 2007, Páez became the youngest footballer to debut with the Ecuadorian national team in September of last year at the age of 16.
He did it in a match in which La Tri beat Uruguay 2-1 in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, in which the midfielder who was already signed by Chelsea in England provided a goal assist.
On the other hand, Rodríguez debuted days ago with the Celeste in a friendly, although his greatest achievement was achieved last year with the under-20 team.
The young attacker won the category World Cup in Argentina and was the hero of a final in which Uruguay defeated Italy 1-0 with his goal a few minutes from the end.
Now, the Copa Libertadores will face these two promises in a match between two teams that are currently opposite each other.
Uruguayan champion and winner of the Super Cup, the local team could not add any victory in the first six days of an Apertura Tournament in which they have accumulated four draws and two defeats.
Contrary to this, Independiente del Valle achieved three wins and three draws in the first six rounds of the Ecuadorian league and is second, one point behind Aucas.
In this way, both teams will face each other in a match in which the visitor would take the field with an eleven similar to the one they matched days ago against Emelec, with Michael Hoyos as an attacking reference.
Meanwhile, the local team would also bet on a team similar to the one they played last weekend, in which the Paraguayan Miguel Samudio could start on the last line.
