The Belgian volleyball women have secured a ticket for the 1/8th finals at the European Championships. The Yellow Tigers defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-0 in their fourth group match.
The set positions were 25-23, 25-19 and 25-15. The Tigers started their game conservatively, but showed towards the end of the game that they were the better team today.
It was Belgium’s third victory. After a 3-0 win against Azerbaijan, coach Gert Vande Broek’s team lost 0-3 to defending champion Serbia, which won bronze at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. They then defeated Russia in a spectacular piece 3-2.
A final game in group A against France will follow on Thursday, but the Tigers are already certain of a place in the top four. The 1/8th finals start on Saturday.
The Tigers finished commendably 9th in the Nations League this spring – with eight wins (of which six 3-2) and seven defeats. At the previous European Championship in 2019, Belgium finished third in its group, but then lost to Russia in the eighth finals. Are the Tigers heading to a new height?
