A considerable figure, amounting to 24 thousand euros, has jumped out of the dog bed during a renovation. Where this sum comes from still remains a mystery. The discovery took place inside the agricultural estate of over a hundred hectares of land owned by the mayor of Fiumicino Esterino Montino and the senator of the Democratic Party Monica Cirinnà.
The money in the dog’s bed
During some maintenance work that involved the couple’s Capalbio residence, the workers found rolls of banknotes closed with rubber bands, well hidden in the dog’s kennel. The spouses were immediately informed of the precious discovery and, completely unaware of the origin of the money, they decided to call the local police station who then seized the entire sum, for a total of 24mila euros cash.
It was to tell the strange fact that happened the messenger on its pages of Roman chronicle. It is not known how long the money had been hidden in the roof of the kennel, nor how it got there. At the time of discovery, the banknotes were a bit battered but still in good condition, despite not having been sealed or bagged to protect them from the elements. This detail suggests that they were hidden a short time ago. When the workers found the money, there was only one of Montino’s sons in the house. The mayor explained: “The workers were doing a bit of cleaning around a shed and near this, on the border with the public road, there is the old dog’s kennel which has been there for maybe 5 or 6 years except that the workers have touched the kennel and this money came out badly reduced and then given the situation my son warned me and we decided to call the carabinieri because we know nothing of the origin“.
Maybe they come from a drug dealing business
The way in which the banknotes were found, in rolls stopped with rubber bands, suggests that they may be of illegal origin, and therefore it is unlikely that anyone will go to the military to ask for their return. According to what Montino hypothesized, they could derive from a drug dealing activity: “In this area the carabinieri did a very long work on a drug dealing situation that lasted a couple of years, which was followed by arrests. People who came from outside and met in the woods to buy or sell way and perhaps that money is the never recovered proceeds of this traffic “.
