There is discontent in the Bronx: the New York Yankees suffered a fourth straight loss on Saturday, this time beaten by a score of 6 to 3 by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Earlier this week, the Toronto Blue Jays had defeated the Yankees twice in Dunedin, Tuesday and Wednesday, then the Rays had already won the first game of this series played in New York on Friday.
It goes without saying that the fans gathered at Yankee Stadium on Saturday afternoon did not seem impressed with the New York team.
Manuel Margot and Joey Wendle each hit a two-run homer for the Rays in this game. Receiver Francisco Mejia had previously kicked off hostilities with a solo slap early in the second set.
Yankees starter Jordan Montgomery (1-1) allowed four runs in six innings, while the “Bronx Bombers” offense was limited to five hits in that game.
In the last row of the section
During their four-game losing streak, the Yankees registered a total of 12 points, which is not much to support their pitchers. With a 5-9 record, the New York club sit fifth and last in the Eastern Division of the American League.
For their part, the Rays are now 7-8. The surprising Boston Red Sox remain at the top of this section, for now.
- Also in Saturday’s game, Yankees wide receiver Gary Sanchez had to leave the game in the fifth inning after receiving a foul ball in his right hand. His case will be reassessed daily.
- The Rays will look to complete the three-game series sweep at Yankee Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The excellent Gerrit Cole should be the starter for the local club, however.
