The XVIII. the district municipality is again trying to levy the air passenger tax

But this was not the mayor’s only strange communication trick: although he argued for a long time that the district “deserves” this money due to the noise and environmental impact, over time it turned out that the municipality would mainly use the additional resources to build asphalt. This is also partly why it is a mistake when Sándor Szaniszló lists European examples to support the raison d’être of the air passenger tax, since they correspond to the extra profit tax, while the solution in Pestszentlőrinc rather imitates the Dominican one.

Világgazdaság’s sources emphasized from the first moment that the district hopes for extra income, but its leaders have no idea how the aviation industry works.

In addition to the fact that the air passenger tax conflicts with many laws, it is also completely impractical, since they do not ask for a residential address card anywhere when buying a plane ticket, so the XVIII. district “discount” cannot be used either. At one point, however, the mayor also claimed that several of the airlines accepted the fact of the tax and included it in the ticket price, but none of the companies confirmed this.

According to the mayor, nothing is lost

At the initiative of the Capital City Government Office, the Kúria prohibited the application of the air passenger tax at the beginning of February, as part of immediate legal protection, pending its final decision.

The government office turned to the Kúria because the municipality led by Sándor Szaniszló created an illegal situation with its provisions on the air passenger tax, and it did not eliminate it within the deadline set in the notice of legality. In fact, it indicated that it fundamentally disagreed with the government office’s position.

Just two months later, last week, the Kúria put an end to the case, since it destroyed the illegal tax retroactively to January 1 – Sándor Szaniszló, on the other hand, wrote that he thinks the most important thing is that the Kúria’s decision did not rule out that the district levy a municipal tax on airport passenger traffic…
