The Xunta presents the allegations to the veto of the central Government to the hunting of the wolf

SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, 18 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Xunta has sent this Friday the allegations against the order of the Ministry for Ecological Transition that will include the wolf in the list of protected species (Lesrpe), which will mean a veto on his hunt (September 25 is the deadline set by the Government for it to occur).

The communities north of the Duero (Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and Castilla y León), which manage 95% of the species, have submitted these allegations that involve an “amendment to the whole” to order. After that, they will turn to the Council of State with the intention of exhausting the administrative route for the Government to rectify its position, but if not, they insist that They will resort to judicial means.

In statements this Friday after meeting with her counterparts from the northern communities, the Minister of the Environment, Ángeles Vázquez, has charged against the “closure” of the minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, who at this week’s sectoral conference assured that it is not going to withdraw this decision, “whatever the communities say”, according to the head of this department of the Xunta complains.

“Triple lie”

In this way, the Regional Minister for the Environment has uncovered the “triple lie” of the central government on this issue. Thus, “the first lie” involves the Government saying that the order “is proportional and that there are no other less restrictive measures”, on which it maintains that there are more options for proper management, and gives an example of the management plan of the Galician community.

On the other hand, it indicates that the Ministry says that it will not have to make “a greater effort” of economic resources, however, “it will have to be the Ministry that takes charge of those expenses” for the damages of this kind, since “Communities can no longer control the wolf”.

Also, censorship that the scientific committee recognizes that the criteria for making this decision “are subjective” and “not objective”. On this point, he remarks that the Xunta has commissioned the work of the wolf census in Galicia, coordinated by Luis Llaneza, “one of the greatest connoisseurs” of the species. The councilor highlights that in recent years there was a “substantial increase” in herds in certain areas.
