The building of the Xunta in Pontevedra hosted this Friday a telematic meeting between the regional vice president, Alfonso Rueda, and representatives of the Association of Receptive Tour Operators of Galicia (Atrega) to analyze the situation of the tourism sector and aid for reactivation. The Administration’s objective is to promote the sector with the idea of “To promote Galicia as a tourist destination in this Holy Year and to launch and disseminate new products adapted to the new requirements of travelers.”

The launch in this same quarter of a “coronavirus insurance” endowed with 1.4 million euros is one of the proposals launched by the Xunta to help the sector. Your goal would be “Regain the confidence of the traveler.” In addition, Rueda informed his interlocutors of the imminent publication of the new aids destined exclusively for Galician tour operators, which will be endowed with 3.6 million euros, which they pursue “Inject liquidity into these businesses.”

Both measures are included in the Shock Plan for the tourism sector to which the Xunta allocates 37.5 million euros, which also includes the renewal of incentive programs for consumption Tourist voucher Y Choose Galicia, which with an investment of 6 and 1.3 million euros, respectively, also seek “To encourage consumption and, therefore, to support the tourism sector and, in particular, the tour operator group”.

With more than ten employees

Regarding the line of aid for travel agencies, Rueda stressed that companies with more than two branches or more than ten employees may request them, which would be, he points out, «The majority profile of Atrega’s associates». There will be a first line of aid with a budget of 2.4 million euros «To collaborate in the creation and commercialization of tourist products of the destination Galicia and the expenses derived from the digital transformation, in addition to financing the insurance of guarantee». And a second line, to which 1.2 million are destined, “With which these businesses can cope with the costs of renting and mortgages”. The amount of the aid will vary depending on the number of workers and the number of premises.

From the Vice Presence of the Xunta, support for the renewal of the sector was underlined “To launch tourist packages linked to the Xacobeo 2021 and strategic areas aimed at diversifying the Galician tourist offer.”
