The Xunta enables self-appointment for young people from 16 to 19 years old due to the high level of contagion | Radio Galicia

The Xunta has launched the system of self-appointment for 16-19 year olds because, right now, it’s the group with the highest volume of infections. The level of incidence in this age group reaches 1,200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, double the Galician average.

According to the president of the Xunta, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, there is a “very wide demand”. The first 6,000 appointments were covered this Thursday in a few hours, causing a collapse in the system that, in Feijóo’s opinion, “is great news” and shows that the kids want to get vaccinated. The Friday another 11,000 will be enabled. The Galician government has vaccinate these 17,000 young people the first week of August.

To this group the leftover dose due to the absences of people mentioned above. The president has pointed out that the plan by age groups that had been applied is maintained and that it is simply an extension of the self-appointment, which began with Erasmus and repechage.

On the other hand, vaccination for children under 30 has begun in the Santiago health area, which will be extended to the rest of Galicia next week.
