The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S controller just got some updates. With the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, Microsoft has chosen to evolve its Xbox One controller a bit, the complete opposite strategy of PlayStation, which completely separated from PS4’s DualShock 4 with PS5’s DualSense. That said, Microsoft is slowly beefing up the Xbox Series X controller | Yes with improvements. For example, Microsoft just updated the controller firmware with “fixes and updates that provide performance improvements.” This is not everything.
In addition to some vague performance improvements, Microsoft also gave the Xbox Series X|S controller a new feature. More specifically, you can now remap the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S controller share button and assign a wide variety of custom actions to it. Courtesy of the Xbox Accessories app, you can now repurpose the button to mute your TV, open your friends list, and do a host of other things.
For those unaware, the share button allows you to take a screenshot by tapping on it and record by holding it down. Of course, not everyone finds this very useful, so being able to remap this button is a very useful feature. Combine that with the performance improvements and it’s a huge win for everyone who uses the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S controller.
These driver enhancements are only a small part of the a much bigger update for Xbox consoles. The update also notably updates the Quick Resume feature and provides a new audio setting.
