The Xbox Series S is the perfect console for backward compatibility. Doubling the FPS is a cinch

Some time ago there were reports that the Xbox Series S was supposed to suspend the generation. Microsoft quickly denied the rumors and noted that less efficient equipment from the coming generation will not be any problem for developers, and they quickly presented Quick Resume functionthat allows you to switch between several games at the same time.

Digital Foundry again took a look at the weaker, new Xbox, telling mostly about its greatest advantages. One of them is the gameplay of older productions thanks to backward compatibility. One channel member outlined how XSS will improve the games from the original Xbox, the Xbox 360, and the Xbox One.

The titles from the first “X” will get three times higher resolution (old hits created with 480p in mind we will be able to play in 1440p). In the case of the Xbox 360, the Xbox Series S will offer twice the resolution (from 720p to 1440p). As for the Xbox One, the matter is a bit different, because on the next-gen we will be able to use the HDR function, significantly improving the image quality, significantly increased resolution in games using dynamic scaling, and we will also see an improvement in the quality of texture filtering. What’s more, there will also be changes to stability. Xbox One games will be more stable (we shouldn’t experience too many FPS drops, which was often the case with the Xbox One Fat).

We designed the S series to improve Xbox One S games in a way the Xbox One X cannot. We’ve made it easy to update existing Xbox One S games to run at twice the FPS when played on XSS.

And when it comes to performance, the S Series delivers more than double the CPU and GPU performance compared to the Xbox One. In fact, the S-series GPU allows you to play games from the Xbox One S with better performance than the Xbox One X, said Andrew Goosen, XSS system architect.

Microsoft has mentioned over and over again that it is going to double the FPS in its titles. If they manage to do this in every title released on Xbox consoles in the past, then dealing with backward compatibility on the next-gen “green” can be extremely pleasant.
