British Airways increases its direct connections to the Island with four weekly flights from London within the framework of the Tourism Board’s strategy to attract tourists with a high spending capacity at their destination.

Fuerteventura exponentially improves its regular air connectivity, increasing the offer of seats from the United Kingdom by 20.9% for the winter season, as confirmed by the Tourist Board in the first day of the World Travel Market International Tourism Fair in London which is held this week between November 5 and 7.

The President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García, and the Minister of Tourism, Marlene Figueroa, participated this morning in the institutional opening ceremony of the Canary Islands stand together with representatives of the different municipalities of the Island as well as the rest of the Archipelago and authorities of the Government of the Canary Islands, which began with a minute of silence for the victims of the tragedy in Valencia, followed by an intense agenda of work and meetings with tour operators, airlines, travel agencies and professionals in the sector with the objective of improving the positioning of Fuerteventura as an attractive, safe and differentiated destination.

From the British capital, data, contracts and commitments confirm the strong demand for a consolidated and competitive destination such as the Island of Fuerteventura, recognized as very attractive, safe and differentiated, valued by tourists for having a quality accommodation facility, for the warmth of a climate that allows you to enjoy outdoor experiences all year round, the authenticity and richness of the local offer and the commitment to sustainability.

In this sense, the island president recalled, “it is important that Fuerteventura positions itself as a first-class destination, improving quality, adapting our accommodation offer instead of continuing to build more land. In short, preserving the natural essence of Fuerteventura that has positioned us as one of the favorite destinations in Europe.”

For her part, the Minister of Tourism, Marlene Figueroa, emphasizes that “the good economic data and the prospects for connectivity, occupancy and profitability allow us to now focus on the promotion strategy to build loyalty and attract new tourist profiles, betting on segments. specific measures that help us increase tourist spending at the destination and transfer profitability to the local economy of our island, which is our ultimate objective.”

In this sense, the Minister of Tourism has announced that the flag airline British Airways, after a meeting with Beyza Aydin, Director of International Accounts of the airline, will double its offer of seats for the winter and will have four weekly flights from the airport from Gatwick (London) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which translates into an increase in places destined for British tourists with medium and high income levels, contributing precisely to increasing the spending capacity of British tourists on the Island.

The agenda of the Majorera delegation on this first day of the fair includes meetings with operators from important markets such as France (Thalasso nº1 and Karavel), Poland (Itaka), the Czech Republic (Canaria Travel), Spain (Expedia), Germany (TUI) and the United Kingdom (British Airways and TUI), and it is planned to conclude agreements to guarantee the good pace of sales of accommodation, services and products on the Island for the summer of 2025 in correspondence with the growth in scheduled regular air connectivity in both markets international (+11.2%) and national (+15%) which show a total growth in the supply of places of +11.8%.

The British market shows great strength in these times of great uncertainty and price increases and exerts a driving effect on other issuing markets, providing a growing role to technology and showing great interest in experiential tourism and authenticity, all of them issues in which Fuerteventura has great strength and which represent a great opportunity, indicates Marlene Figueroa, adding that it is important to remember that it has been precisely British tourists who compensated for the drop in German and Scandinavian tourists in the last two years, allowing the sector on our Island to maintain high levels of occupancy and profitability while promotion strategies were developed by the Tourist Board to recover these markets.
