The writer Miren Agur Meabe will participate in the Guadalajara International Book Fair (Mexico), together with the Etxepare Euskal Institutua, where she will present her book ‘Quema de huesos’, and will be the protagonist of various events in Guadalajara and Mexico City between Monday and next Thursday.

‘Burning Bones’, originally published in Basque in 2019 by the Susa publishing house under the title ‘Hezurren erretura’, is the latest work by a writer with a long career in Basque literature. Translated by Meabe herself, the novel narrates, as detailed by Etxepare, “how a woman in full maturity searches her memories for traces of her personality”.

With the aim of giving visibility to literary creation in the Basque language in one of the most prestigious events in the international book sector, since 2011 the Etxepare Euskal Institutua has been promoting the participation of “exceptional voices” of Basque literature in the FIL.

Miren Agur Meabe takes the place of names such as Uxue Alberdi, Kirmen Uribe, Arantxa Urretabizkaia, Bernardo Atxaga, Karmele Jaio, Harkaitz Cano, Anjel Lertxundi or Eider Rodrguez.

ILLUSTRATORS VASCHI

This edition of the FIL also foresees the participation of illustrators Maite Gurrutxaga, Raisa Alava, Elisabeth Prez Fernndez and Arrate Rodrguez, in FILustra, the International Illustration Forum, thanks to the agreement signed between Basque illustrators (Professional Association of Illustrators of Euskadi) and Basque Institute Etxepare.

This specialized forum for illustrators, students and professionals interested in this publishing sector is in its ninth edition. It consists of a series of talks, conferences, workshops and round tables, and constitutes a place for “meeting and exchanging ideas” for illustrators from Mexico and Latin America.
