Latvian freestyle wrestler Ivars Samušonoks suffered a loss in the first duel of the World Championship in Oslo on Saturday.

Samushonok, who starts in the weight category up to 86 kilograms, was free from the first round, but lost to the Chechen-born French representative Ahmedsm Aibuyev in the second or eighth final with the result 8:18.

At the beginning of the fight, the Latvian athlete placed the opponent on his chest twice, but added two more points until the middle of the duel – 6: 0. In the second half, Samushonok reached 8: 0 and approached victory, but the opponent pressed him to the chest and later turned three times, reaching 8: 8. In the last minute and a half of the duel, Aibujev turned Samushonok several more times and reached 16: 8. Another two-point technique 40 seconds before the end of the fight gave the French athlete a victory with 18: 8.

In order for Samushonok to continue the championship in the satisfaction tournament, Aibujev must win the next two fights and reach the final. In the quarter-finals, the French wrestler will face the titled American, Olympic champion David Taylor.

Alan Amirov will also represent Latvia in the free fight, who will start in the weight category up to 79 kilograms.
