The wreckage of the Titan submersible has been recovered. Suspected remains discovered in the rubble are now to be examined.
St. John’s / Boston – The “Titan” was with five tourists on the way to the Titanic wreck when the submersible allegedly imploded. All occupants died. A good week after the “Titan” disappeared in the North Atlantic, the wreckage of the crashed submersible has now been brought ashore.
According to the US Coast Guard, experts also discovered “suspected human remains” in the wreckage of the imploded submersible. These are now to be examined by experts in the USA.

After the implosion of “Titan”: wreckage recovered – analyzes are imminent
As the US Coast Guard announced on Wednesday evening (June 28), an official analysis of the alleged remains, which were “carefully secured in the wreck at the scene of the accident,” is now pending. According to the authority, the ship “Horizon Arctic” brought the wreckage to St. John’s on the Canadian island of Newfoundland on Wednesday (June 28).
“There is still much work to be done to unravel all of the factors that led to the catastrophic loss of Titan,” said Jason Neubauer of the US Coast Guard, who is leading the agency’s investigation. The investigations are necessary so that such a tragedy does not happen again.
After the “Titan” disaster: Video shows the debris being recovered
Video footage showed the shattered parts of the Titan submersible being unloaded from a ship onto a flatbed truck at a dock in St. John’s, eastern Canada. The front part of the “Titan” submersible with the window and other pieces of debris were wrapped in white tarpaulins and transported with a crane.
The US Coast Guard also said that after consultations with investigative authorities from international partners, the evidence should be brought to a US port on a US Coast Guard ship, where further analysis and testing could take place. The evidence would “provide important insights into the cause of this tragedy,” explained Neubauer.
“Titan” submersible wreckage recovered: search and rescue operation “extremely risky”
The Canadian ship “Horizon Arctic”, which is now lifting the wreckage of the “Titan” out of the water, was also instrumental in the search for the submersible. It had deployed a remote-controlled submersible robot, which eventually encountered the wreckage of the “Titan”. The US Coast Guard initiated extensive investigations and, according to its own statements, is also working with international partners, including the Canadian Traffic Safety Authority.

The search and rescue operation was “extremely risky,” said the spokesman for the New York company Pelagic Research, which owns the remote-controlled rescue vehicle Odysseus. “It was extremely stressful and exhausting for the team who worked around the clock, with almost no sleep the whole time, for 10 days,” Jeff Mahoney told the news outlet AFP.
It is still not known why the “Titan” imploded. Everything indicates that the hull of the boat gave way to the enormous water pressure and imploded. The Titanic lies at a depth of around 3800 meters on the sea floor. (hg/dpa/AFP)
