Rome: The wounded Juventus regained its balance by defeating its host Salernitana 3-0 on Tuesday, at the end of the 21st round of the Italian Football League.
Juventus, Serbian Dusan Vlahovic, scored two goals (26 from a penalty kick and 47), and his compatriot Philip Kostic (45).
Juventus raised the balance to 26 points in the tenth place, while Salernitana’s balance froze in the sixteenth place with 21 points.
Juventus was subjected to a penalty of deducting 15 points from its balance in late December, which led to its decline from third to eleventh place as a result of a decision by the Italian Federation, due to suspicions about player transfer deals and falsifying financial statements.
The penalty follows new evidence from a separate criminal investigation into Juventus’ financial affairs conducted by public prosecutors in Turin.
Juventus suffered an additional setback after stumbling in the last two matches in “Serie A”, drawing 3-3 against Atalanta, before losing 0-2 to Monza, to drop to thirteenth place.
Coach Massimiliano Allegri’s team seems able to qualify for a European competition next season, specifically the European League “Europa League”, after reaching the Italian Cup semi-finals by defeating Lazio in the quarter-finals last Thursday.
And in the event that the “Old Lady” administration did not succeed in the appeal submitted in order to lift the penalty imposed on the club, the cup competition will be its only hope to qualify for the “Europa League” next season, unless it can win the title of the second continental competition in which it is still competing (playing By facing French Nantes in the “Europa League” supplement on February 16 and 23), which will allow him to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Juventus advantage
Despite the good start of the Salernitana team in the match and its attempt to impose its rhythm, possession of the ball alone was not enough to constitute a real threat to the goal of the “Old Lady” team.
Vlahovic succeeded in giving Juventus the lead from a penalty kick, following a foul by Fabio Meretti inside the area (26).
Kostic doubled the guests’ lead in the last moments of the first half, by scoring the second goal against Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, after a failed shot attempt by Vlahovic, followed by the first in the net (45).
Juventus spent the hopes of its host at the beginning of the second half when Vlahovic was able to take advantage of Niccolo Fagioli’s pass to populate the goal and score his second personal goal for him and the third for his team (47).
