Poco has lasted the adventure of Anthony Bennett, No. 1 in the 2013 draft, at the Hapoel Jerusalem. As reported by the journalist Roi Cohen, the Israeli team has decided to cut the Canadian power forward after his debut in the Champions League in which they will face the Turkish Pinar Karsiyaka.
Bennett is considered as one of the biggest pufos that are remembered throughout the history of the Draft of the NBA. Even more and more opinions point it out as worst “number 1” ever seen. This 28-year-old, 2.03-meter tall Canadian power forward was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in first place in 2013 just ahead of Victor Oladipo and with many positions ahead of players like Giannis Antetokounmpo or Rudy Gobert.
The pressure and anticipation generated by an entire No. 1 in the Draft was too much for this player, who never made it to the NBA without a handful of good individual performances. From 2013 to 2017 he was a team per season in the North American league (Cavs, Timberwolves, Raptors and Nets) playing a total of 151 games and without shining especially in any of those stages with 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.
Bennett also tried it in Europe in 2017 with Zeljko Obradovic’s Fenerbahce, but he also failed to deliver the expected performance and finished with a poor 1.2 points and 0.9 rebounds on average in the Euroleague. Numbers that earned him a cut with just 10 career matches.
