Gerónimo Rulli wondered what he had started when he made his debut for Ajax. The team from Amsterdam then visited FC Den Bosch on a rainy evening. Rulli calls it ‘the worst match he has ever played’.
Ajax picked up Rulli last winter at Villarreal. The Argentinian goalie made his debut in the sixteenth final of the KNVB Cup, on the artificial turf of FC Den Bosch. In the magazine of Ajax Life he tells about it. “That was the worst match I’ve ever played,” Rulli is honest. “The cold, the rain, the artificial turf… Everything was terrible.”
“I’ve only touched the ball about five times,” continues the 30-year-old goalie. “Was I then wondering what I had started? At that moment I did, haha. I was really very cold. At halftime I even decided to keep long-sleeved in the second half. That’s something I otherwise never do. That says enough.”
Nevertheless, Rulli soon managed to settle in Amsterdam. He received a lot of help from Dusan Tadic and Davy Klaassen. “Tadic has helped me with everything from the first moment. He is really a very good guy,” concludes the closing post.
