PARIS, KOMPAS.com – French President Emmanuel Macron said the worst would come in Ukraine after a 90-minute phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This was conveyed by an aide to Macron who also said Putin appeared intent on seizing all of Ukraine.
“The president’s forecast is that the worst is yet to come, given what President Putin said to him,” Macron’s senior aide told reporters on condition of anonymity.

“There is nothing in what President Putin said to us that can convince us. He showed great determination to continue the operation,” the aide continued. AFPThursday (3/3/2022).
He added that Putin “wants to take control of all of Ukraine. He will, in his own words, carry out his operation to ‘denazify’ Ukraine to the end.”
“You can understand the extent to which these words were shocking and unacceptable and the president told him it was a lie,” the aide added.
Macron also urged Putin to avoid civilian casualties and allow humanitarian aid in.
“President Putin replied that he supported but without making any commitments,” the aide said, adding that Putin denied the Russian military was targeting civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.
Macron will once again push for additional sanctions against Russia to exacerbate the impact of the invasion, the aide said, denying open tensions between Macron and Putin.
“President Putin has a very neutral and very clinical way of speaking. He sometimes shows signs of impatience, but basically no signs of overt tension during the talks,” the aide said.
