The Worst Foods to Avoid for the Best Brain Health – Jakarta News

Jakarta

The brain is the most important organ in the body. Good brain function allows the organ systems in the body to function well.

Therefore, it is very important to keep the brain in the best condition with a healthy diet. Because some foods can have a negative effect on the brain, affecting memory and increasing the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Foods that are bad for the brain do not mean that they should not be eaten at all. It’s just that it is recommended to reduce intake so that brain function is still at its best.

Quoted from Health linehere are the worst foods to avoid for the best brain.

1. Fried food

All fried foods, whether it’s fried chicken or fried tempeh, can reduce brain function. A study of more than 18,000 people found that a diet high in fried foods was associated with lower memory and cognitive scores.

The memory and brain function of those who like to eat fried food seem much worse than people who do not eat these foods often.

2. Foods high in sugar

Our brains use energy in the form of glucose, a type of sugar, to drive cellular activity. However, a diet high in sugar can cause excess glucose in the brain.

This can cause memory impairment and reduce the plasticity of the hippocampus, the part of the brain that controls memory.

Not only does the high level of sugar expand the waistline and increase the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease, but it also has a negative effect on the brain. Higher blood sugar levels can increase the risk of dementia, even in people without diabetes.

3. Processed foods

An ultraprocessed diet can put a person at risk of having shorter telomeres. Longer telomeres tend to promote healthy cellular aging. Shorter telomeres may mean we are at risk of developing degenerative diseases early in life.

A 2022 study also found that participants who ate a lot of ultra-processed foods such as baked goods and soda were more likely to have mild depression compared to those who ate less processed foods.

4. Fast food

The high levels of saturated fat found in fast food affect brain function in fighting the plaque that causes Alzheimer’s. Additionally the high sodium levels in fast food can cause brain fog.

High blood pressure, often caused by eating too much salty food, can restrict blood flow to the brain and adversely affect focus, organizational skills and memory.
