[아시아경제 김수환 기자]In Myanmar, the worst bloodshed occurred as the police cracked down on protesters protesting the military coup. The international community is urgently moving, with the United States considering additional sanctions against Myanmar.
On the 3rd (local time), protests against the military were held across Myanmar, and at least 38 people were killed by indiscriminate fire by the police, recording the highest number of deaths since the coup on the 1st of last month. At least 18 people died in Yangon, the largest city alone. It is also known that more than four children have lost carpenters.
According to the testimony of citizens who participated in the protests, it is known that the police indiscriminately fired live ammunition at the citizens in the process of suppressing the protesters. One citizen said, “It’s so shocking. It’s the massacre itself. It’s impossible to describe the current situation in Myanmar in words.” Another citizen told The Guardian that “the police fired indiscriminately at the protesters,” and “the streets are full of corpses.”
One of the college students who died that day, a 19-year-old girl, Angel or Cha-al, found a message saying “If I die, please donate your organs”, it aroused regret among citizens. He was struck by a live ammunition in the head from a police fire and died immediately.
Shin, who is known to love Taekwondo, received attention while wearing a T-shirt with the phrase “Everything will be OK” in protests. Foreign media reported that pictures of him wearing this T-shirt are rapidly spreading centered on social network services (SNS).

Meanwhile, the citizens who participated in the protest marched on the street while wearing helmets and self-made shields to prepare for hard-line crackdown by the police.
Videos of police troops spraying tear gas at the protesters were posted on local social media, and even paramedics who came to treat the injured protesters were also caught beating.
The Associated Press said, “The Myanmar medical staff began a disobedience campaign last month in the sense of protesting against the military,” and “the military has tried to suppress the resistance of such medical staff.” Explained.
In addition, the police are known to have arrested hundreds of citizens, including reporters. According to UN statistics, more than 1,200 citizens have been detained since the coup so far.
On the same day, UN Special Envoy Christine Schraner Burginer held a press conference and urged that “there could be a real war in Myanmar.” “The Security Council may impose strong sanctions,” he said. “The isolation of Myanmar may be deepened,” he warned.
The U.S. government also condemned the military’s hard repression in connection with the bloodshed in Myanmar. State Department spokesman Ned Price said, “I am astonished by the bloodshed that took place today,” he said. He then demanded the release of six journalists, including an Associated Press reporter, who were detained locally.
Accordingly, the US government is considering additional sanctions against Myanmar. A spokeswoman for Price said, “In addition to the visa restrictions that have been implemented so far, we will also consider additional sanctions.” Instead of comprehensive economic sanctions that could affect the people of Myanmar, he predicted the enforcement of’tweezers’ sanctions targeting high-ranking military personnel.
It seems that the Myanmar military will not surrender to the hard-line response policy of the United Nations and the United States. According to Envoy Burginer, shortly after the UN announced that it would consider additional sanctions, the Myanmar military said, “We have endured numerous sanctions from the international community. We will survive any pressure from foreign forces.”
Meanwhile, on the 5th, the UN will convene the Security Council to discuss sanctions against Myanmar. The Associated Press said, “At this Security Council meeting, China and Russia are expected to oppose sanctions against Myanmar. Eventually, only some countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom will have to implement their own sanctions.”
Earlier, the Security Council held an emergency meeting on the 2nd of last month, the day after the coup, and prepared a draft statement calling for a strong response, including condemning the military coup, but the opposition to Russia and China could not finalize it. Subsequently, at the request of China and Russia, a statement was confirmed and released, emphasizing efforts to resolve the situation through dialogue with military forces.
