The situation is very worrying in Mayotte where the inhabitants see the water restrictions getting tougher: since Monday, September 4, the inhabitants of Mayotte have only had access to drinking water one day out of three. Lack of water presents an intolerable health risk. However, water is a common good, the public authorities must guarantee everywhere, including in Mayotte, the infrastructures necessary for its sharing and access. Faced with episodes of drought, the State continues, on the contrary, to support the construction of “mega-basssines” which pump the water tables for the needs of intensive agriculture to the detriment of the inhabitants and peasant agriculture.
Global warming has repercussions on access to water and increases the risk of drought and heat waves.
While August had recorded heat records, temperatures will again be extremely high during the week of September 4 with more than 30 degrees. SUD Education is present at your side to inform you and defend your rights during heat waves.
