“The World’s Worst Man” on Oscar’s shortlist for best international film

It writes Variety.

The shortlist is an overview of which 15 films are included in the nomination process for the prestigious film award.

– It has been an incredible year for “The World’s Worst Man”. In the last month alone, we have topped the many summaries of this year’s best films among critics in the USA, France and Norway, says producer Thomas Robsahm in a press release.

The film will compete against, among others, the Danish “Escape,” while the Cannes winner “Titane” has been left out of the list.

This is the second year in a row that a Norwegian film is on the Oscar shortlist in the category of best international feature film. Last year, it was Maria Sødahl’s “Hope” that was the Norwegian contribution.

“The World’s Worst Man” has done very well internationally. It participated in the main competition at the Cannes festival, where the main character Renate Reinsve was awarded the prize for best female lead.

The film has so far been seen by over 200,000 in cinemas in Norway and by a similar number in France. In addition, former US President Barack Obama highlighted the film Twitter as one of his favorites from the past year.

– When Obama announces it on Twitter as one of his favorite films of the year, you have to pinch your arm. Getting on Oscar’s shortlist is in itself a victory. When this happens this year, it says something about the level we have achieved in Norwegian film. Let’s hope that we will also be on the final list of nominees in February, says Robsahm.

The final nominations will be announced on 8 February. The award ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on March 27.
