The World’s Most Expensive Ice Cream: Cellato’s Byakuya

Everyone loves ice cream. In the scorching summer, when you hear the word ice cream, the coolness that comes to mind is different. But if you hear about the fresh flavor of the Japanese brand Cellato, you will doubt whether it is really ice cream.

The reason is nothing else but its price. The price of the ice cream is 8,73,400 Japanese yen (5.2 lakh rupees). It now holds the Guinness World Record for the most expensive ice cream in the world. The specialty of this ice cream named Byakuya is very rare ingredients.

Chief among these is the rare white truffle from Alba, Italy. Its price is around 2 million Japanese yen (11.9 lakhs) per kilogram. The ice cream also contains Parmigiano Reggiano, a special cheese, and sake lees, a Japanese table sauce.

Cellato’s goal was to create a combination of European and Japanese ingredients while creating the highest quality ice cream. The company chose Tadayoshi Yamada, the head chef at Rivi, a popular fusion restaurant in Osaka, to oversee the ice cream production. This ice cream was developed after 1.5 years of many experiments. The ice cream, which is available in a glass bottle, is also infused with edible gold flakes.
