The world’s largest volcanic eruption even becomes a public spectacle

Mountain Long mountain in Hawaii which erupted, flowing rivers of incandescent lava on Wednesday (11/30). volcano The world’s largest active attraction draws thousands of people who flock to see it.

Groups of people who wanted to see this rare phenomenon blocked the Hawaii highway that should soon be covered by the flow of the lava river.

Mauna Loa awoke from 38 years of sleep on Sunday (11/27) at 11:30pm local time in Moku’āweoweo which is the summit caldera of a volcano.

This eruption created a stunning and terrifying sight in the Hawaiian sky. Hot, brightly colored lava spurts out, making the night sky over Hawaii’s largest island look as red as it is on fire.

A major highway connecting cities on the Big Island’s east and west coasts has been turned into a makeshift observation post by residents. Thousands of cars blocked a highway near Volcanoes National Park.

A resident named Anne Andersen quit her night shift job to see this phenomenon out of fear that the road would soon be closed as a result of lava movement.

“This is Mother Earth showing us her face. When a volcano spews gas on the horizon, it’s exciting,” he said, quoted by Phys.org.

Gordon Brown, a visitor to Loomis, California, could see the bright orange lava from the bedroom of his rented house. So he went to take a closer look with his wife.

“We just wanted to take a closer look at this as possible. And it was so brilliant, it blew my mind,” Brown said.

The lava was slowly falling down the slope and was about 10 kilometers from the main road known as Saddle Road. It is not clear when, or if it will cover the road that crosses the ancient lava flow.

The road divides the island and connects the cities of Hilo and Kailua-Kona. People traveling between them will need to take the longer coast road if the Saddle Road is impassable, thus increasing the driving time by several hours.

Ken Hon, senior scientist at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, said at current flow rates it would be faster for the lava to reach the streets in two days, but it would probably take longer.

“As the lava flow spreads out, it could interfere with one’s development,” said the Hon.

Menurut United States Geological Survey (USGS), Long mountain it has erupted 33 times since 1843. The last eruption was in 1984, when lava flows flowed within 8 km of Hilo, the most populous city on the island.

But the Big Island’s population has more than doubled since 1980 to 200,000 people. Hawaii’s Civil Defense Agency has warned its citizens of a lava disaster.

“These lava flows rarely pose a risk of death, but they can be very damaging to infrastructure,” said Dr Jessica Johnson, a British volcanic geophysicist who worked at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

He warned that the lava flows could pose a risk to Hilo and Kona (another densely populated area), adding that the volcanic gases could cause respiratory problems for local residents.
