The world’s largest chip maker will employ 6,000 people by 2023

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., the world’s largest chip maker, said it will expand hiring this year, CNBC Arabia reported.

The company is preparing to hire more than 6,000 new employees in 2023.

The recruitment campaign comes despite a global downturn in the chip industry. The company will be looking for young engineers with bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees in electrical engineering or software-related fields, all over Taiwan.

According to TSMC, the average gross salary for a new engineer with a master’s degree is NT$2 million (US$65,578).

Decreased demand for electronics and high inventory levels after a shortage of some chips has led to a decline in the semiconductor industry.

While Intel Corp. recently announced that it would cut payments to employees and mid-level executives from 5% to 25%, TSMC’s dominance in making some of the most advanced chips for high-end customers like Apple has protected it from deflation.

The company slightly reduced its annual capital expenditures for 2023 and expects revenue to decline in the first quarter, and expects demand to pick up by the second half of this year.
