The plane – the only one of its type – comes from Tianjin in China.

The precious cargo is received by Federal Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (57, CDU).

The transport is part of the Bundeswehr’s administrative assistance in the Corona crisis, the Bundeswehr said.

A total of three transport flights will ultimately bring around 25 million protective masks to Germany.

The jet had recently flown protective gear to France and Poland.

According to its own statements, the Bundeswehr as a NATO nation has access to the transport aircraft through the SALIS Treaty.

The Antonows are also used to fly large Bundeswehr equipment, for example, to Afghanistan.
