EL NUEVO DIARIO, DIGITAL DRAFTING.- A female whiphound shark gave birth to a calf after having spent ten years sharing the pond only with other female sharks, a fact that has been listed as the first “birth virginal ”that has been documented in the world.
As reported by Acquario di Cala Gonone, in Sardinia Italy, said that the female has not had contact with a male of her species or another, and that this could be the first of this species.
They also indicated that the calf, whose name was registered as “Ispera or Esperanza”, is a clone of the mother, which could have been born by parthenogenesis.
The specialists indicated that parthenogenesis is a form of asexual reproduction used by some species of animals, where an ovum is formed without fertilization.
Likewise, they indicated that if the DNA tests programmed to perform the female determine parthenogenesis, this would be the first shark to be born asexually.
