The world’s first case of human infection with bird flu H10N3 has been identified in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu. This was announced in a statement published by the State Committee for Hygiene and Health of the People’s Republic of China, quoted by BGNES.
The information is about a 41-year-old man from the city of Zhengjiang, who had symptoms of fever in late April. Days later, his condition worsened and he was admitted to hospital. He is currently stabilized and is even expected to be discharged soon.
The National Center for Disease Control and Prevention in China reviewed the documentation on the man’s illness and concluded that he was infected with H10N3. As a result, all people in contact with him were isolated and placed under medical supervision. At the moment there are no identified patients among them.
“H10N3 is derived from birds, and genome analysis shows that the virus does not have an effective ability to infect humans,” the center said.
To date, no human cases of H10N3 infection have been reported worldwide. So far, it has been known that this virus is transmitted only between birds and has low pathogenicity.
