The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Announces 2023 Champions of Change Awards Winners

50 Best, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants organization, has announced the winners of its 2023 Champions of Change awards to recognize culinary heroes who make meaningful change in their communities. As well as being a role model for the development of the food and beverage industry.

The winners of the Champions of Change award are: Nora Fitzgerald Belahcen Founder of the Amal restaurant in Marrakech. Morocco and social entrepreneurs who help underprivileged women. She opened her first Amal Center in 2013 to train struggling Arab women in culinary arts and related skills. Mostly a single mother who has been marginalized by society, Amal now runs a thriving restaurant and catering business. It has a staff consisting of trainers and learners. and 30 graduates every eight months. Amal’s latest project is the Sign Language Cafe in Marrakech. which employs a deaf woman and a model for businesses run by the deaf.

Nora Fitzgerald Belahcen said, “I am so excited to receive this award on behalf of all the women I have worked with. And on behalf of all women who can turn their lives around by cooking. I have long believed that food has the power to nurture and heal. as well as bringing people together and changing people’s lives.”

In addition, another Champions of Change award was given to Oth?n Nolasco and Dami?n Diaz Duo from Los Angeles Founder of the non-profit food security program No Us Without You LA during the pandemic. It provides ongoing support in the form of food distribution and counseling to immigrant families who work in the food industry but are unlicensed and legally recognized as citizens of the United States. Therefore, they cannot receive assistance from the government.

Nolasco and Diaz said, “Unlicensed labor is the heart and soul of the restaurant and bar industry. But it’s seen as insignificant, so the No Us Without You LA project gives away food to show they’re not forgotten. And we are proud to raise those who have raised us for many years.”

On this occasion, 50 Best will award a grant to the winner. The Champions of Change is one of several special awards that are continuously announced. The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023 awards ceremony, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, will take place in Valencia, Spain on June 20.
