The World Trade Center building: A Cold and Empty Fate?

Exactly two years ago – on April 1, 2021 – VAS “Valsts nekustamie išapumi” (VNĪ) stopped operating the World Trade Center in Riga, Elizabetes Street 2. At that time, the idea of the Riga concert hall being located there was actively discussed, but later rejected, options for moving various ministries were considered. However, the building is still empty and there is not much clarity as to when that might change. Meanwhile, building maintenance costs the state several tens of thousands of euros per month.

Many options
The building at 2 Elizabetes Street was built in 1974 as the building of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Latvia. It came into state ownership in 1996, then became home to the World Trade Center and later to individual tenants.
